Taxes in Canada
If you own a home, have a spouse or common-law partner, or have dependents in Canada, the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) classifies you as a resident for tax purposes. As a result, you are required to file tax returns for the entire year or for the portion of the year during which you resided in Canada. The total amount owed for your Canadian personal income taxes is determined by factors such as your overall income, applicable deductions, your family circumstances, and the province or territory in which you reside. As a new Canadian permanent resident, you will have to print and mail your first income tax return to the CRA. A certified tax preparer can submit your tax return online on your behalf.
