Apply for Temporary Foreign Workers Visa
Each year, Canada opens its doors to thousands of temporary foreign workers, bridging gaps in the labor market caused by various factors such as climate fluctuations, shifts in labor distribution, or evolving economic demands. These vacancies are filled by foreign nationals who come to Canada for a finite period, presenting an opportunity to join the Canadian workforce and gain exposure that could lead to becoming a valuable contributor to the Canadian economy.
Depending on the industry or occupation you wish to pursue, you may not require a work permit to commence work in Canada. Our immigration consultant in Toronto can assess your eligibility for exemption from a work permit based on your specific occupation.
For occupations that do necessitate a work permit, certain criteria must be met to qualify. Below are the requirements for eligibility towork in Canada.
REQUIREMENTS
- Your employer may be required to get a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).
- An LMO confirms that there is no permanent resident of Canada that can fill the vacant position and a foreign worker may fill it.
- An LMO is not required for all occupations and our consultants can advise you if you require an LMO for your position.
- You must meet the general requirements of entering, staying, and working in Canada. As a result, you may be required to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
- Your spouse or common-law partner and your dependent children may apply to come to Canada with you.
The outlined criteria serve as a general outline for potential eligibility for temporary work in Canada and are not exhaustive. Your specific circumstances may lead to variations in these requirements. Our consultants will furnish you with comprehensive information to facilitate an informed decision and expedite your employment commencement in Canada.
It’s important to note that a work permit is not a permanent immigration document and does not confer permanent residency in Canada. To obtain permanent residency, you must meet the criteria of an immigration category. However, certain exceptions apply, notably for Live-in Caregivers who meet specific requirements and may be eligible for permanent residency in Canada.
