Family Sponsorship

The family sponsorship program in Canada encompasses two primary categories:

Sponsoring your spouse, conjugal/common-law partner, and/or your dependent children (including adopted children).

Requirements For sponsoring your spouse, partner, or dependent children:

A sponsorship agreement must be signed with the individual being sponsored, outlining your commitment to providing financial support if necessary. Additionally, the sponsored relative must agree to make efforts to support themselves.

If sponsoring a spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner, financial support must be provided for a minimum of 3 years from the date they attain Permanent Resident status.

Financial support for dependent children must be guaranteed for at least 10 years or until the child reaches 25 years of age, whichever occurs first.

For sponsoring other eligible relatives:

You must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status.

You must be 18 years of age or older.

You must not have received government financial assistance, except for disability-related reasons.
